bad education(s)
This week started off productively, but, now that it's drawing to a close, I'm struck by how little work has been accomplished. I taught two really full classes this week, with mini-lectures, games, candy, overhead...lots of edutainment. I also started calling on people randomly, which, I guess to many seemed cruel, but to me seemed necessary. I can't allow certain people to develop patterns of silence that they'll continue throughout the term. This is about learning, not about comfort and ease. But the dissertation ground to a halt for this week. Last night I saw "Bad Education" again...(the last I saw it was in London in May) and it was really wonderful, though I don't think it lived up to the expectations I had set for it over the last few months. I'm going again tonight...should know the movie like the back of my hand. I'm glad to do my part to support foreign films with NC-17 ratings.
On other fronts, our wonderful commonwealth has recently produced a motherlode of farcical anti-gay bills that may or may not pass in the general assembly. This, my dear friends, makes Elmhurst seem like NYC. Anyway, I'm going to try to rant about these bills later in the week. So if you don't like complaining (especially my style of complaining), well then find another blog.
