The Grind
Well...classes start up again this week. The mini-van percentage on campus, along with the number of SUVs, has shot up in the past few days. I don't have anything to do with my students till Thursday, when the show, entirely designed by me, finally begins.
The last weeks haven't been so bad...Jan and Ken visited and we took a massive trip to Costco...quite an overwhelming venture. I now have Pirates of the Caribbean on DVD. They also helped with some crazy housecleaning, which means that the new first floor is a clean, well-lighted place.
I'm also working on my dissertation and reading a few interesting books, included Al Frankin's Liars, The Immoralist by André Gide, and a nineteenth-century mummy novel, The Beetle. Also a possibility: a chapter of my dissertation that deals with the melodramatic role played by pirates in Victorian fiction and drama...stay tuned.
